Ever feel like being a whole different person when you use different languages? Language and culture are inextricably linked. They shape how we think, communicate, and see the world.

When I first moved to New York, my Chinese thoughts struggled to find their English voice.

So many untranslatable expressions and concepts.

I found myself tongue-tied quite often.

Years passed, and English seeped into my being. Now, I think in two tongues, a bilingual mind. I built up an extrovert facade while having a timid core.

After 13 years, I feel untethered.  Not quite Taiwanese, not quite American. A perpetual expatriate, who will always live in-between two worlds, two selves.
